Sealants are an excellent defense against cavities. A sealant is a material that is applied to the teeth where decay occurs most often Рthe chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These teeth have pits and grooves that are hard to clean. The sealant bonds to the teeth and acts as a barrier to keep bacteria and food out of the pits and grooves of a tooth.

Sealants are quick and easy to apply, taking only minutes per tooth. Applying sealants can save both time and money. Your child may avoid the need to have a tooth repaired by having sealants applied. Sealants can last several years before needing to be reapplied.
